Organization – childcare - fees

The estimated opening of the nursery „Biberbau“ will take place in May 2014. Then we will start with the familiarisation of the first children and continuously include more children until summer 2014.

Considering the high demand for nursery place,s we suggest to make a registration or reservation as soon as you can tell the needed times for childcare. You can also register your child before birth.

You can register for our parents information meeting via our webpage. We will send the confirmation asap. In addition to that, you can use the form for advance reservation for registering you child online. In this case you will also receive a confirmation plus information on the further proceeding asap.

The KITA Biberbau opened its doors in May 2014. Please visit our webpage: you can get more information on the rooms at our parents information meetings. There will be guided tours in the nursery on a regular basis. You can also attend our workshops or register for our toddler-group to get a first impression of our facility and our work.

 The law standards, our attitude towards children, our methods and knowledge and the professionality of the pedagogic staff guarantee a high-quality and age-based attendance of your child at the KITA Biberbau. 

Individual care is much easier if there are no or not many other children in a new facility. Relationships between children form individually, each child can acclimatize to the group getting larger. 

The toys and rooms are new, the nursery staff is highly motivated and all children have the same situation to start with. You child has, in fact, many advantages.

We offer nursery care for children aged 6 months up to kindergarten age (usually three years). We have 59 full-time nursery care spaces with flexible booking times.

The KITA Biberbau is open from Monday to Friday, 08:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m.. Exceptions are public holidays and the facility holidays, which will be communicated in time.

Generally, we are open for children from all Munich city quarters. Children living outside of Munich can be registered only after checking with the municipal administration of your residence. 

If you have questions regarding this matter, please contact the Referat für Bildung und Sport (education and sports department).

Please decide on the booking times needed when registering your child. If needed, we can adjust the times later according to the capacities. 

If you have short-notice appointments or need to work longer sontaneously, please tell us one day in advance so we can adjust our planning. The costs for expanding the booked care times are listed in the valid price list.  Those extra hours will be billed monthly.

In each group, three pedagogues look after the children. According to the booking times, the pedagogues work full- or halftime. According to the immersion principle, during the core hours, at least one person is English-speaking and one is German-speaking.

After  acclimatisation is finished, you can talk anytime shortly to the pedagogues of each group while bringing or picking up your child. If you are looking for a longer conversation, please make an appointment with the person you wish to talk to. In addition to this, the pedagogues will invite you to a personal conversation two times a year.

The pedagogic guidance and the agency offer weekly consultation hours. You can also send and e-Mail to the person you wish to talk to or contact us via phone during the weekly consultation hours. 

The parents can pick up their children at the agreed times. You can tell us the names of other people allowed to pick up your child in advance, in written form.  For your own and our safety, an ID card has to be shown If we do not know these persons personally.

We constantly communicate with your via the „Biberheft“, in which you and the staff note everything important regarding your child. You can, i.e., note if your child did not sleep well the night before and might need a nap during daytime. We can, i.e., note that your child did not eat its afternoon snack with much appetite  – so you know why your child is asking for more dinner than usual. The „Biberheft“ is taken home with your every day and brought back to us the next day.

Please see the current price list for exact prices for childcare in the Biberbau. The childcare costs depend on the time booked. Additional costs occur for meals, application fee and yearly administration fee. A bond worth one monthly childcare fee will be paid back if there are no arrears.

According to the current German tax law, childcare costs can be set off up to a maximum amount of EUR 4.000 per year if you declare them as additional costs. Your tax accountant can give you the best advice. The Biberbau will send, of course, one official invoice on the childcare costs per month to you.

The nursery Biberbau is working according to the statutory requirements (BayKiBiG, BEP) and the newest knowledge in childcare psychology. Both the law and the complete personnel are looking for the protection and involvement of your child. You can be absolutely sure that your child will be able to make its own experiences – in a loving and age-based environment, without rejection or force. 

Protection does also mean that the nursery is watching each child carefully, knows the child’s limits and provides a good basis for letting the child develop to become an independent member of our society.   

The age-based participation is provided and supported by communicating with the child as well.

The statutory requirements are  frequently checked via internal and external quality management. Standards and processes for different scopes (i.e. the familiarization process or the complaint management) are a matter of course and will be refined continuously. 

With involving findings of brain research and good experience of highly qualified pedagogues, your child is provided a positive and age-based care at the Biberbau.

Our pedagogic concept concretizes the statutory requirements in the nursery. We have well decided on which education methods may provide the best childcare for children aged 0 to 3. 

We offer care and encouragement which does not orientate on trends and experiments, but is working according to science-based and well-proved methods. Brain-research knowledge and awareness of a toddler’s skills will be implemented according to the development standing of your child. 

Being the master-builder of its own development, your child designs its own schedule according to its needs and interests. Our aim is to support the autonomy of your child as well as the respectful contact between children and educators and the social exchange in the group. Our highly-qualified pedagogues actively support your child in its progress. Our daily work is based on the well-known principles according to Maria Montessori and Emmi Pikler. Our house is organised in a partially-open concept, which means large and airy rooms for crafting, painting, exercise, music, mealtime and bedtime. So your child has a caring and secure space for its free evolvement. 

We trust in bilingual education in German and English – right from the beginning. In the Biberbau nursery school, your child has one German-speaking and one English-speaking attachment figure, so each child can figure out individually which language to choose. This principle of language-immersion makes it possible to use some essential skills, as each child „listens“ first in its world. According to applied research, the best method of learning a second language is playing with words. Children's natural curiosity and their perception of different sounds and notes makes it possible even for little children to understand and locate the differences. These skills are the key for all languages. 

We trust in natural materials and closeness to nature. Each room has its individual concept of material, forms, colours, light and acoustics, fitted to the needs of your child. All rooms are embellished with natural material like wood and ceramics. Also, the toys are made of natural and healthy material. We especially avoid flexibilisers and plastics in toys. We prefer collecting chestnuts and leave it up to your child's fantasy to play with them.

To provide security and orienteering for the well-feeling of your child, the daily routine is structured by the repeating of rituals. In addition to that, spare times give the children every possibility to act according to their  individual needs and interests. The children can get to know the other groups by visiting – this will take place after the familiarization phase is finished. 

The weekly routine offers different actions: i.e. the baby hour (with PEKIP, Pikler, Montessori and musical elements) for children ages 6 to 14 months. The ongoing Kindergarten children are offered some special and more ambitious entertainment from February to July so they can cope with the upcoming stage of life. 

“See you later” is the motto of each group one time per week: getting to know their neighborhood and frequent exercise is important to us. The daily routine, the weekly routine, special events and offers are posted next to the group door and/or in the entrance area, so news are always accessible to you.

The Prager Eltern-Kind-Programm (PEKiP, Prague Program for Parents and Children) is a concept for pedagogic groupwork with parents and their children during the child’s first year. The aim is supporting the process of social connecting, early encouragement plus exchange of experiences between parents.

The beaver creates and rearranges its lodge according to its needs and interests. In each beaver's lodge there is, for example, a living room, a bedroom and even a bathroom. For  creating this, the beaver uses natural materials. And this is the role model for our Biberbau: each group consists of twelve children and three pedagogues, each group has a main room with a thematic focus and a sleeping room attached. In connection to your application, we will pick the right main group for each child according to its preferences and in coordination with the pedagogues. So each child has its familiar environment and an individual sleeping berth. 

As every group room has a special focus, continuous communication between the groups is important to us. The children visit other groups with their teachers and have the possibility to spend their time in another group as well. In the afternoon, all children meet on the first floor and get to know other rooms and playmates. 

 

Your child is absolutely able to „read“ its name and does not need any assistance for this. Just try it! Read a book with pictures and words describing the pictures to your child. After some time, your child will be able to read the word even without watching the picture. Children learn words as pictures and are able to connect written words with spoken words. 

In the first six years, language education („literacy-education“) is an important job for both parents and pedagogues, as many things cannot be completely covered in later years. The most sensible phase for speech education is during the first years of life. 

 „'Literacy' does not only mean the skill of writing and reading, but also the understanding of texts and their meanings, experiences in the reading- and narrational culture of society, being familiar to literature and other written media as well as competences in dealing with written language. 

Literacy is based in early childhood. As all small children have different experiences in reading, writing and narrational culture in their families, pedagogues have to be sensible and willing to act compensatory. In addition to that, they should encourage children to learn basic skills in advance, as literacy has an important meaning in today's society. Scientific results tell us that children with numerous experiences of speech, reading, books, written language during their early childhood show better competences in reading, writing and speech during their school education.“ Martin R. Learning a foreign language at the nursery is based on the „immersion“ principle. This means a „language bath“ in which children can float. The central part is getting to know the connections, the so-called „contextualising“. Language must be connected to actions. Words are supported by actions, Children learn to understand situations by connecting them to certain activities. This does not exhaust children, as the pedagogues do not ask for work proof like work schedules or certain aims. 

Each group will be looked after by at least one English-speaking attachment figure. These „native speakers“ or pedagogues speaking at the niveau of a native speaker only talk in English to the children, while the other attachment figure talks German only. All native speakers also know the German language in addition for being able to communicate with parents, German-speaking pedagogues as well as the pedagogic guidance. 

The age mixture of the groups is of special meaning. Especially in developing their language skills, younger children learn from older children, while older children reflect their skills while trying to teach younger children. 

 

Your child does not need advance skills or special training for the second language. Special training might even be contraproductive: by especially teaching your child at home, the second language becomes “school”, which maybe makes the playful learning obsolete.

Sports education and psychomotorical training helps your child develop a positive attitude towards sports and workout. If children move frequently and act freely, this fosters their emotional development. Children who stay passive in their movements and actions also do not foster their emotional development and can rarely experience success themselves or with others. This is why it is important for your child to simply move!

Fine motor skills (painting, crafting, playing and creating) and motor skills in general (running, climbing, swinging) are supported by the pedagogues. On the one hand, the children's daily routine includes sports, dancing and other kinds of playful moving depending, on the children's strenght and stage of development. Different sports tools are available for that in the garden and the sports rooms, providing all possibilities for different actions according to the children's age and interests. 

In addition to that, all children have the possibility to try out their skills while helping with typical “grown-up-jobs”, i.e. working with tools, helping in the kitchen, testing different materials. We do not focus on a concrete result, but on the ability of children to try out new actions fostering their fine motor skills for being able to get their own experiences of the world that surrounds them.

Children under one are carefully watched over: first, we start with catching bubbles. Then, we take more and more activities, step by step. Your child will be accompanied in its development. 

Our priority for children at that age is making them move autonomously, so they can first learn how to crawl and then how to walk by themselves. Smaller children get lots of motivation from older children who already can crawl or walk, which is another bonus point for the age mixture.

After the acclimatization phase, your child can take part in our weekly trips to the closer or wider neighborhood. The times scheduled for those trips will be listed in the weekly schedules. 

The birthdays of all children will be celebrated at the Biberbau. We provide a birthday cake and drinks. Depending on the age of the child, the party will take place in the group room or the kid's restaurant. 

Each year at the end of July, we celebrate our summertime party with all children and their parents. At this event, we provide food and drinks for everyone and celebrate the end of the official nursery year. We then also say goodbye to the children who will be leaving for the Kindergarten. 

Day trips and parties correspond to the age and the experiences and knowledge of the children. We do not want to stress or exhaust your child, but we want to encourage your child and give the opportunity of making new experiences.

Ethical and religious education is basic knowledge for a peaceful society. By religious education, we mean neutral teaching of the main thoughts of different religions. During everyday life, the children will experience this mainly via preparing for religious celebrations like Christmas or Easter. We will focus on all different religions of the nursery children if relevant. If your child is raised Jewish, Muslim or in any other religious belief, we will celebrate the religious holidays just as well including all other children according to their age.

Acclimatizing the children in a new environment is an important first step for both parents and children – and it does take its time. It is not possible to fully overtake the childcare within one day. During an advance meeting with the pedagogic guidance, all organizational themes and all special needs of your child will be discussed before starting the acclimatization process. With this basic information, the pedagogues get to know your child in advance and might be able to act according to its individual needs during the acclimatization phase.
We usually calculate three weeks for the acclimatization process. You must also consider that every child is different, so we cannot tell the exact length of the acclimatization phase.

Parents do have a very special position in the development of their child – and therefore also in the acclimatization phase. They provide the „secure basis“ while their child is exploring its new environment. So it is highly necessary to be with your child as an attachment figure during this time.

During the first days, each child has the possibility to get to know the new situation by using its own skills: watching, exploring, social interaction. The attachment pedagogue in the child's group will slowly get into touch with you and your child and then, after some time, become an extra attachment figure for your child.

You and your child will visit the group for one hour maximum during the first days. With their parents in the same room, the children will have the experience of a „safe harbour“ as soon as they feel exhausted or overcharged. From the second week, the visits will be extended up to the booked nursing time.
If the pedagogues succeeded in getting good and intensive contact, the children will be first separated from their parents for a short time. For this, the pedagogues will initiate a short goodbye ritual as soon as the child is relaxed. During this time, the pedagogues work on gaining your child's trust in a caring way. The mother or father returns, if not called before, at the time discussed before and takes his or her child out of the acclimatization situation. The times of separation get longer from day to day. If your child has fully accepted the pedagogues as attachment figures, the acclimatization phase is finished.
The complete acclimatization process will be documented and moderated in your child's individual interest. After about 6 weeks, a final meeting with the parents will close the acclimatization process.

Of course you can rely on the fact that all fostering (diaper duty, feeding, dressing,...) will be done in a careful and sensible way. We talk to your child, we encourage children on doing things themselves and we offer the time needed for individual success. 

The skin will be cleaned with fresh water and washing gloves, wet tissues will be used only in special situations. Lotions will be used if needed, but no baby powder or oils which might irritate the children's skins. 

Fostering does also include relaxing phases and inspiring games and toys. We watch your child and encourage its individual needs. Of course we will not wake up your child if its fast asleep. We see the lunchtime nap as a good possibility to deal with the new experiences of the day. Waking up a child during deep sleep might have negative consequences.

We buy diapers and all other sanitary products ourselves, so your child will always be provided with everything needed. You do not need to buy or refill any of the material. If your child needs some special sun lotion or antiallergic lotion, you can of course bring this product with you.

Glass bottles are easy to clean and durable. We do not have to deal with harmful ingredients in plastic bottles, or with tarnishing surfaces that might be dirt or changes of the bottle material – all of which we do not want your child to drink with its milk. 

Babies won't be left alone with their bottles. We keep the children in our arms and feed them the way they like it best.

Children need lots of body contact during their first year. We feed your baby in our arms, in the same position a child is breast-fed by its mother, which means the baby is half-lying. As babies usually start to sit at about 8 months, sitting in an earlier stage might harm the spine. 

You baby will discover and learn all positions (turning around, crawling, sitting, standing up and standing) by itself) in its own rhythm. This is why we won't let your child sit on a chair until its own development allows us to do so.

Spout cups usually cause an impulse at the mouth's front while drinking. The tongue follows this impulse, which supports wrong swallowing, an open bite of the teeth and therefore wrong sibilants (lisping).

Children are usually able to drink from normal cups at 6 months, in the beginning with assistance, later by themselves. They can switch from baby bottle to cup or from spoon to knife and fork according to their age, without any in-between-solutions that might not be needed.
While on the road, straws can be used for drinking: they make the tongue go back, which is, in fact, good for language development.

Not necessarily! We do not want to take negative influence on the language development and the teeth of your child. But: if your child is in need of a pacifier during special situations or for taking a nap, it will get one. We always have clean pacifiers in our group rooms. The pacifiers are cleaned daily after use and will not be used by more than one child.

For all children who do not eat solid food yet, we provide freshly prepared formula and baby food. The change from baby bottle to spoon will be taken step-by-step.

We offer an appropriate breakfast, warm lunch delivered by a specialized and certified supplier (organic food only), snacks and in-betweens (fruit and vegetables) for all children.
Gentle cooking makes vitamins and nutrients stay fresh. Raw fruit and vegetables and desserts like cake and milk products are prepared daily in our kitchen. All food needed for breakfast and snacktime is bought from certified, regional suppliers of organic food.

Water and tea without sugar appropriate for children is available anytime. At events, we also offer fruit juices mixed with water or milk drinks.

The Biberbau has its own kitchen in which a studied home economist prepares food for the children. Of course all hygienic prescriptions will be followed. The food's temperature will be controlled and journalized  before eating. In addition, all food will be documented for a week by daily retain samples.

We generally try to avoid critical food like colorants, preserving agents, yeasts, artifical flavours so we can provide a healthy and appropriate diet for your child. If your child already shows allergic reactions to special ingredients, we will of course avoid or replace those ingredients. Please tell us about this while registering, so we can discuss further actions.

In general, we offer three meals per day according to your booking time. Breakfast (at 08:00) will take place at the kid's restaurant on the ground floor. Lunch and snacks will be offered according to the situation – either in the kid's restaurant or the group room. In the group, fresh fruit and drinks (water, unsweetened tea) will be offered anytime. Of course all children younger than one yea will be fed with baby food / formula according to their needs.

Yes, it can! If you let it happen. We include the time your child needs into our daily schedule. You child is watching carefully what you are doing and how you are doing it – and it wants to repeat everything him- or herself. We give all children the opportunity to repeat actions until they succeed. This encourages you child, gives self-esteem and confidence.

Sleep is one of our basic needs, it is important for recreation and for dealing with new experiences. A lack of sleep has many bad consequences, You surely know how unbalanced your child is after getting not enough sleep? At the Biberbau, your child will get enough sleep. In its own pajama or comfy clothes and in a positive, sleep-supporting atmosphere. We won't wake up your child while it is fast asleep.
With repeating rituals, i.e. changing into their pajamas, the children will be prepared for their naptime. They always sleep in their own bed in their dormitory.
The pedagogues know when your child gets tired and will then put it into bed. Especially smaller children might need their sleep in the morning and in the afternoon. Naptime after lunch corresponds to the needs of a child. In the afternoon, your child will be relaxed and able to explore new things without being exhausted.

As parents, you are the most important attachment figures in the life of your child. Not only because of this, you are also the most important partners of the KITA Biberbau. This is why the pedagogues make their work transparent for you. Individual meetings, group meetings, events and group visits provide positive cooperation in educating your child. The exchange of experiences between parents will be supported.  

You will receive information about our work, our activities and the organizational issues via frequent letters, bulletins, notes and the intranet. We also upload pictures of the children's daily activities on the intranet. 

 

As parents, you are the most important attachment figures in the life of your child. Not only because of this, you are also the most important partners of the KITA Biberbau. This is why the pedagogues make their work transparent for you. Individual meetings, group meetings, events and group visits provide positive cooperation in educating your child. The exchange of experiences between parents will be supported.  

 

You will receive information about our work, our activities and the organizational issues via frequent letters, bulletins, notes and the intranet. We also upload pictures of the children's daily activities on the intranet.

In cooperation with the parents' association, the focus of cooperation according to our concept will be defined and ways of co-determination will be discussed.

In addition to planning and organizing frequent events for information and additional training, we will also discuss joint projects in the facility. The parents' association can at any time add ideas for developing the pedagogical concept in agreement with the pedagogues.

The statutes for the parents' association will be defined and published in cooperation with the association after the opening of the facility.

Watching and documenting are central jobs for pedagogues in the context of childcare. By this, basic information important for creating an individual fostering and education of your child is collected.
Watching includes structured and focused watching over your child oriented by closed development charts as well as open watching in individual situations. Both forms of watching are meant to document the individual state of development of each child, i.e. the physical or linguistic development.

The main focus in this context is getting information – not evaluation of children's skills. The pedagogues use the information in different ways: on the one hand, they built the basis for providing very detailed and exact information in the development meeting, which takes place two times a year. On the other hand, they use the information in cooperation with your child and give him or her the opportunity to recall own experiences over and over again.

So the development profile is based on every day's monitoring of the children's daily life with well-acclimatized attachment figures. The state of development of each child will be defined by its daily acting in a trustful environment. Under these circumstances, pedagogic offers can be fit to the needs of your child. And pedagogues can avoid excessive demands, exhaustion or boredom.
